ARA1031: Elementary Turkish I
This module descriptor refers to the 2016/7 academic year.
Module Aims
This module is designed to introduce students to the Turkish language as spoken today in modern Turkey. At the beginning of the course, it is expected that all students will learn the proper pronunciation features of Turkish by recourse to the teacher during class and to course audio materials.
The module aims to introduce different aspects of Turkish at A1 level and aims to develop all four language skills alike as well basic Turkish structures and a selection of survival and significant vocabulary. Translation exercises and study materials are regularly set and later corrected and analysed by the whole class and/or the lecturer.

Module-Specific Skills | 1. Demonstrate mastery of Turkish spelling and pronunciation, grasp of essential Turkish grammar, 2. Read with a dictionary elementary texts in Turkish, 3. Carry on basic conversation in elementary Turkish. 4. Acquire a basic understanding of the importance of Turkish language and civilisation in the broader context of Islamic civilisation and culture. |
