Rami Rmeileh (he/him)
Postgraduate Researcher
Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies
I am a liberation/indigenous psychologist currently pursuing a PhD at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. I hold a BA in Clinical Psychology (Psychoanalysis) from the Lebanese University and an MSc in Cross-cultural Psychology from the University of Oslo and ISCTE in Lisbon. Prior to my academic path, I worked extensively with various political institutions (including the European Parliament) and humanitarian organizations in Lebanon and Europe, advocating for the rights of refugees and displaced communities. Building on my practical experience in humanitarian and political interventions, my research critically examines the Eurocentric approach in psychology and psychiatry, highlighting its violent history and ongoing impact on both theory and practice.
I also write experimental prose, short stories, and op-eds. My articles have appeared in Al-Araby al-Jadeed, Palestine Square, MERIP, the Omran Journal for Social Sciences and Humanities, Archive Stories (forthcoming), and the Sage Handbook of Decolonial Theory (forthcoming).
