2023 BRISMES Conference Call for Papers

We’re excited to announce that submissions for the 2023 BRISMES Conference are now open!

It is widely expected that the Middle East will be one of the areas of the world most impacted by climate change, with predictions of sharp fluctuations in temperature and sea levels, changing precipitation patterns and increased frequency of extreme weather events. However, much analysis of these climatic effects tends to focus on their techno-scientific dimension, ignoring what they might mean for established patterns of political and economic power in the region. In this context, it is both urgent and essential to consider the social, political and economic implications of climate change in the Middle East.

Please take a look at the call for papers and submit your individual/co-authored paper, panel or roundtable by 7 December 2022. We invite submissions from social sciences and humanities scholars and professionals working in the environmental field. In addition to the conference’s main theme, we encourage proposals on any topic related to the Middle East and North Africa. Submissions from the Global South, from the Middle East region and from people from under-represented groups are especially welcomed. We also accept the inclusion of panels/roundtables in non-English languages spoken in the MENA region. Please do share widely!
